The promise of cryo-electron tomography

In this exclusive Q&A, Drug Target Review’s Ria Kakkad spoke with Dr Michael Grange, Tomography Group Leader from the Rosalind Franklin Institute (RFI), UK about the advantages of using cryo-electron tomography imaging.

Cryo-electron tomography (cryo‑ET) is a label-free cryogenic imaging technique that offers three-dimensional (3D) datasets of organelles and protein complexes at nanometre resolution by opening windows into the cell with a focused ion beam milling of a cryogenically frozen cell. A series of two‑dimensional images is taken of this thinned cellular sample and then reconstructed into a 3D volume.

In this exclusive interview, Drug Target Review’s Ria Kakkad spoke to Dr Michael Grange, Tomography Group Leader from the RFI, about the applications advantages of using cryo-ET imaging.
