Webinar

The rise of organoids: a new era in drug discovery

12 March 2025

4:00pm

Join this webinar to learn how organoids are reshaping drug discovery by providing more accurate models for disease research and drug testing, offering new solutions to long-standing challenges in the industry.

Organoids are 3D cell cultures that replicate human tissues, offering more accurate models for disease research and drug testing. Unlike traditional methods, such as 2D cell cultures and animal models, which often fail to capture the complexity of human biology, organoids provide more reliable and ethical alternatives, helping to address high failure rates in clinical trials.

Editorial webinar - 12th MArch 2025

This webinar will explore how organoids are transforming drug discovery by improving the accuracy of drug efficacy and toxicity testing. We’ll discuss their role in personalised medicine and how they are accelerating the development of targeted therapies. Real-world case studies will highlight successful applications of organoids, demonstrating their potential to overcome current challenges and enhance research outcomes.

SPEAKERS

Dr Elad Katz

Dr Elad Katz

Dr Elad Katz has been developing organoid-based drug discovery at the University of Dundee, utilising his innovative technology, NaviPlate, which forms the foundation for three commercial projects. With an initial background in chemistry, Elad earned his PhD in immunology at the University of Glasgow. During his post-doc in the USA, he developed an interest in complex biology, particularly through 3D cell cultures of cancer cells. Katz is dedicated to bringing these systems into mainstream drug discovery, aiming to benefit patients with unmet clinical needs. He and Dr Mohammad Islam are co-founders of Navigate Precision Biology, which will spin out later in 2025.

Dr Mohammad Islam

Dr Mohammad Islam

Dr Mohammad Islam is an emerging pharmacologist and biotechnologist with a PhD in Oral Biology from the University of Dundee. His research focuses on advancing bone regeneration, with particular attention to the therapeutic potential of dental stem cells in promoting bone formation. His groundbreaking work has led to numerous original research publications and editorials in prestigious scientific journals. In collaboration with Dr Elad Katz at the MRC-PPU, Islam has pioneered an innovative, high-throughput 3D bone regeneration technology. This technology has great potential to revolutionise drug screening and therapeutic development for bone disorders. By integrating dental stem cells with cutting-edge regenerative strategies, his work aims to accelerate novel treatments, reduce reliance on animal models, and enhance clinical translation in bone tissue engineering.
